Sometimes no matter how hard they try to be positive some people still struggle to feel good. We all feel depressed at some point or another and have bad days or weeks when everything seems gray. Clinical depression is where these low feelings last for weeks months or even years. Normally when something nice happens our brain produces feel good chemicals and we feel good. In a person suffering with depression they struggle to produce enough or maintain their levels of feel good chemical, so they find it hard to feel good or stay feeling good. This can be triggered by a sudden shock, a major life change, body changes after childbirth or a slow build up of pressure. The mind and body are part of the same system and react to each other. If you were riding a roller coaster you generally wouldn't be having calm thoughts and like wise you may find it hard to have excited animated thoughts while you were having a relaxing massage. Because of the lack of feel good chemicals depression suffers have less 'feel good' thoughts, the less 'feel good' thoughts you have the less feel good chemicals you will produce – and a slow spiral starts that is hard to raise your self from. Increasingly people are being prescribed anti-depressants that help their brain chemistry 'level out' so they can feel better about themselves. For many people a course of anti-depressants allow people to get back on an even keel and gradually under medical supervision they lessen the medication and return to how they felt before. For others the medication helps them feel better but they still cant seem to get back to how they once felt. If I can offer up an analogy. If a person suffers from bad digestion what they eat is a contributing factor to the chemical imbalance in their stomach. The person can take medication to ease their digestion but if they eat the same foods in the same way they will never get better – and they will need to keep on the medication to counteract their habits. If a depression sufferer continues to think in the same way and have the same feelings as they had when they were depressed then their medication is only going to counterbalance their thinking patterns. Using hypnosis and NLP techniques we can begin to build your self esteem, to help you to alter the pattern or structure of your thoughts so once again you can be thinking more happy thoughts than depressed ones. The more happy thoughts you have the better you feel – the better you feel the more 'feel-good' thoughts you have – and a positive spiral begins. We have helped many people with depression, bi-polar, O.C.D. and other issues. For any issue where you are under medical supervision we will ask for a referral or permission from your doctor so we can aid and complement the treatment you continue to receive from your Doctor.
