STRESS Stress is natural and stress is very useful. Surprised? Many people are when I tell them that because the word or term stress is often over or misused. If, for example, you were being chased by a heard of man eating zebra (improbable I know but just go with me!) your body would be under stress. In a situations we feel are threatening or dangerous our body has two instinctive responses - to flee or to fight. As we are running from the zebra we are 'fleeing' from the danger, were we to turn round and chase them then we would be fighting back. Our bodies release adrenaline, which gives us a surge of energy to run or fight and survive. Although there is a distinct lack of man eating zebra there are plenty of traffic jams, bills to pay, demanding bosses, busy jobs and countless other things that affect us. In their own way these and many other incidents trigger our body to tense up, produce adrenaline, want to fight or flee – yet we cant. A more correct term is chronic stress, where the mind and the body spent too long wound up in a heightened state, ready to battle or run against things you cant. Eventually this living on the edges starts to wear out our body and mind, leading to potentially run down, tired, ill or overly emotional. Just like a holiday can be a break in a busy year, allowing you to unwind and recharge, hypnosis can provide a break in a busy day or week. Going into trance provides your mind and body with time to calm and unwind. Using hypnosis you can create enough tranquility to counteract the chaos and also allow you to resolve and release any issues that are causing “stress”.
